Hello,

I tried changing the HTML file directly on the FTP server and it worked. On Dreamweaver, I tried changing the code many times but on the web, it's not changed. Every other pages works fine with Dreamweaver. Weird...

No I have another problem. After I installed WP hive, both of my blogs, blog 1 and 2, has lots of weird problems. When I had WP hive file in my server, I couldn't even open those blogs. I tried uninstalling it and I can now open those blogs, but still lots of problems persists. Like, when I tries opening pages other than the main page, it give me error messages.

So I need to know how to completely remove the WP hive from my server and not to even leave any trace of it, if it changed my code somehow.

Like I stated above,

"On the documentation page, it says when uninstalling, you have to delete wphive config file, etc, but I don't know where they are..."

I removed the whole WP hive folder from my "plugin" folder, but the problem still persists, so I am sure either WP hive changed the code directly on my files or there must be something from WP hive left in my server.

Please let me know how to completely remove WP hive and where I can find those files I need to remove.

Thank you.

Hello,

I installed a WP blog a few weeks ago. I have 2 domains from godaddy.com and I wanted to make 2 separate blogs on each domain, but same content. I did some researches and seemed like WP hive might work for me, so I installed it to my blog 1.

I tried to add sites on WP hive and wasn't sure if I did it correct, so I deleted both sites that were added to WP hive. When I deleted the blog 1, the whole admin pages crushed... I was getting error messages and couldn't even log in to my blog dashboard. So, I went back to godaddy FTP and used the snapshot program and restored the blog folder of 2 days ago. Just in case, I deleted the WP hive from my site. And it seemed like everything went back to normal, except for 1 thing...

My websites' index pages has a link to my each blog. Website 1 is linking to blog 1 and Website 2 is linking to blog 2. After the crush, when I click on the link to blog 2 on website 2, it goes to blog 1. On website 1, the link works fine and goes to blog 1.

No matter what I tried, I can't figure out how to link correctly. On Dreamweaver, the link is linking to blog 2, but on the web, it goes to blog 1.

So I am thinking WP hive has changed some code of something on my database even though I deleted the program.

On the documentation page, it says when uninstalling, you have to delete wphive config file, etc, but I don't know where they are...

I am not a computer expert, so if you could give me easily comprehensive answer, I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

first off, thanks for hp-hive. It was badly needed for us blog managers who had multiple blogs. I wanted to ask you for the name of the theme of this site. I love it! It's so clean and simple. I saw the footer of this site and went to http://refueled.net/ but couldn't find it.

1. I will assume you are using subdomain configuration. Each site is considered to be a separate site, and they do not link to eachother.

2. No, the Hive must share a database. WP Hive works by using different prefixes for each site, within the same database.

I am very interested in making all of my site updates easier but not at the expense of my SEO efforts. I use separate IP addresses with different nameservers for each of my sites. My questions/concerns are:

1.) Does using WP Hive link all of my sites that would be visible to the search engines (via ip, directories, etc.)

2.) I would prefer to use separate databases because many of my sites are already up and running. Is it easy to just have WP Hive handle the plugins and WP updates without touching those databases?

Thanks

Hi there,

Just wanted to let you know that removing the "META_TABLE" allows you to actually reach the dashboard on the second blog.

The issue I just had was that I logged in on one blog, but then wasn't given permission to see the dashboard on the second blog -- probably had to log out completely. But by removing the meta table line I can be logged into both blogs at the same time without permissions issues.

Is that going to raise a problem for me in future, however? Guess I'll post more if I find out!

Hopefully WP-Hive will survive the availability of MU. There are two distinct markets for the apps and some hosts (Godaddy for one, I understand) only allow the installation of MU on dedicated servers.

MU is for those who want to run blog farms of major proportions. A user like me, who wants no more than six to 12 blogs, should be comfortable with WP-Hive. Now if my server (at a host that does not allow MU installs) will just cooperate, I'll be on my way with WP-Hive.

Theoretically, you could have an infinite number of sites in one hive.

That being said - there are limitations to what the database can handle in terms of volume. One site that has a heavy load could slow down all the other sites in the hive.

I think it is quite similar to the way 'shared hosting' works.

I don't know if Parked domains or Addon domains are treated differently in CPanel, but while it is a little tricky, it is possible to run alternate subdirectory content on sites in the hive.

For instance, on wp-hive.com, I have created a virtual directory (VHOST in Apache) which points to a separate install of BB Press to power the forums. It's a little more technical, and I really don't know if CPanel can handle this type of set up.

It all depends on what your needs are, and if you are technical enough to implement it. Theoretically, WordPress / WP Hive can handle anything you throw at it, as long as you are willing to put in some customization and/or have enough control of the server.

I am still getting my head around what Hive can do.

If I have example2.com parked on the account of example.com, and it is working fine as a hive member, can example2.com also have OTHER content, such as a store in a folder called /store?

Forgive my ignorance, but it seems that when using CPANEL to park a domain, I lose the ability to do anything ELSE to that domain besides running it as a hive blog.

Is that right?

But now I think this might be different for ADDON domains. These do allow for folders and files to be added to each new hive member??

In MU, one administrator has control over all the sites whereas in both VMB and WP Hive, all the sites act independently of each other, as though they were separate installs.

I don't know a lot about VMB as it's not my product, but as far as I know it works best with Apache / Linux. I believe it also requires more configuration on the server side (eg, replacing wp-config, editing files, etc..) to work.

WP Hive is:
- Server / OS agnostic
- Plugin architecture and easy to install (and will be even easier in the future).
- Compatible with the latest releases of Wordpress
- Compatible with almost all third party plugins

Is it not the case that WP-Hive allows a single admin to manage multiple blogs within a single dashboard/admin interface?

WPMU allows multiple blogs each with their own owner/administrator with the only common feature being accessing the same themes directory and optionally the same plugins directory.

If that distinction holds, then the need for WP-Hive will only grow.
------------------------

Great question!!

Is that the main distinction between Hive and MU? If so, then I agree, Hive will Survive. (And I will gladly pay for Premium.)

Following from that question, and apologies for pushing this thread off topic a bit . . . since you, ikailo, brought up VMB Virtual Multiblog, in another thread . . . is the main distinction between Hive and VMB that VMB allows each blog to maintain its own wp-config.php file? (I'm unclear what the pros and cons are about that so far...)

Secondly, that VMB, like MU, requires separate logins at each blog to make changes, but HIVE has just one interface to log into ALL blogs?

Are those 3 VMB/MU/HIVE distinctions correct?

I'm a complete newbie, so I may have misunderstood something. I've been doing a LOT of reading on the web and my understanding to now has been that there is a major difference between what WP-Hive does and WPMU does, which makes the question about WP-Hive becoming obsolete not make sense.

Is it not the case that WP-Hive allows a single admin to manage multiple blogs within a single dashboard/admin interface.

WPMU allows multiple blogs each with their own owner/administrator with the only common feature being accessing the same themes directory and optionally the same plugins directory.

If that distinction holds, then the need for WP-Hive will only grow.

I've just got three sites and managing just these three by having to login-logout-login has driven me to searching for a solution that looks like it is WP-Hive.

Am I wrong?

The other thing that lead me here is that all of the instructions for creating multiple blogs with WPMU involve creating symlinks this and htaccess that. Some of the instructions seem to directly contradict one another.

WP-Hive -- I've been reading your support forum -- has a consistent install and remarkably understandable answers to first-timer questions. Such that I think even I can pull it off!

If I succeed I promise I will support the development with a donation.

Yes. Set
allow_new_hosts
to
0
in the
wphive_config
table. This setting is always recommended.

It has been brought to my attention that if a person is to enter http://ftp.mydomain.com into a web browser it begins a new wordpress installation like you would with a new subdomain. Is there a fix for this? I don't want some random idiot messing with this . . .

Probably better to install it when you actually need it. There is a good chance a new version will be out in late August.

Regardless, I'm a big fan of seamless upgrades / migrations, so count on not having any issues if you install now and want to upgrade when the new version is released.
