Aha!!! I was trying to point the subdomain AFTER I created the site on in a subdirectory.

Thank you. It works beautifully now!

If you're getting the 'unknown host' error, then you've got it pointed correctly in your control panel (It should be pointing to the public_html directory).

Now, just add that site to the WP Hive admin page within your root site.

Domain: hivetest.bigideawebdesign.com
Subdirectory: /
Prefix: ht2_

If you are moving it from subdirectory to subdomain, then you will have to edit the home and siteurl options accordingly. There may be other factors to deal with as well. You may want to review this page for consideration.

I love wp-hive. It looks like it will make my life much easier.

I'm having a problem setting it up to do subdomains.

I'm on bluehost (shared) with a wordpress installation from simple scripts.

I have my wordpress installed in public_html (www).

I add a new site:

domain name: bigideawebdesign.com
subdirectory: /hivetest
prefix: ht2_

I save it and install it.

I make my permalinks pretty and chmod .htaccess (in public_html) to 444 (read only).

I create the site with title, login, password, email.

YAY!!! It works. I can see my site, login to wp-admin, change stuff. Hurrah!

Now... I want to make this installation a subdomain - hivetest.bigideawebdesign.com

I go into my cPanel -> subdomains

I type 'hivetest' as the subdomain for bigideawebdesign.com

document root: ?????

No matter what I've tried here (public_html, public_html/hivetest, public_html/wp-content, etc, etc...), I can't get the subdirectory to work. Depending on where I point it, I'll get a 404, or the generic bluehost.html site, or a blank page, or an 'unknown host' message.

What am I doing wrong?

Is it a problem with a simple scripts installation? Am I pointing to the wrong document root? Do I need to do some kind of editing in my .htaccess? Do I need a dedicated ip?

Any ideas?

I just added a site (not sub directory or subdomain) to an existing hive. When I click on install site I get "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

So far I have
- deleted an recreated the hive entry
- removed and reinstalled wp-hive
- checked the .htaccess (normal)

- Deactivate the WP Hive plugin

Try manually removing the entry for the site you are working with from the
wphive_hosts
table in the database.

Also, you can check the length of the fields allowed in the Database. In an older version of WP Hive, the prefix was only allowed to be 6 characters long. this was changed in a later version and 'should' have been fixed during an update.

And also check that you don't have any invalid characters (eg "." or "-") in the prefix value.

Let me know if any of these help at all.

So far I have tried the following:

Completely uninstalled and re-installed WP-Hive in the top domain. No change.

I added some echos to both the DB.PHP and DO-PREFIX.PHP and both scripts seem to finish during the install process.

Removed and re-added the domain to the hive. (Still get that "There was an error saving the site." message if I try to update (it writes the records OK though).

What am I missing?

OK, so I created a new hive. Did everything as I have in the past, but when I try to activate a new domain I get

"Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

I have the top domain activated. I have the new site directed at the hive domain. Everything looks good, bit I get that message.

I also noticed - when I go into the hive's edit page and try to change any of the domain names or prefixes, I get this error message

"There was an error saving the site."

What should I try? This hosting account has another hive defined that is working fine.

Hello,

I tried changing the HTML file directly on the FTP server and it worked. On Dreamweaver, I tried changing the code many times but on the web, it's not changed. Every other pages works fine with Dreamweaver. Weird...

No I have another problem. After I installed WP hive, both of my blogs, blog 1 and 2, has lots of weird problems. When I had WP hive file in my server, I couldn't even open those blogs. I tried uninstalling it and I can now open those blogs, but still lots of problems persists. Like, when I tries opening pages other than the main page, it give me error messages.

So I need to know how to completely remove the WP hive from my server and not to even leave any trace of it, if it changed my code somehow.

Like I stated above,

"On the documentation page, it says when uninstalling, you have to delete wphive config file, etc, but I don't know where they are..."

I removed the whole WP hive folder from my "plugin" folder, but the problem still persists, so I am sure either WP hive changed the code directly on my files or there must be something from WP hive left in my server.

Please let me know how to completely remove WP hive and where I can find those files I need to remove.

Thank you.

Hello,

I installed a WP blog a few weeks ago. I have 2 domains from godaddy.com and I wanted to make 2 separate blogs on each domain, but same content. I did some researches and seemed like WP hive might work for me, so I installed it to my blog 1.

I tried to add sites on WP hive and wasn't sure if I did it correct, so I deleted both sites that were added to WP hive. When I deleted the blog 1, the whole admin pages crushed... I was getting error messages and couldn't even log in to my blog dashboard. So, I went back to godaddy FTP and used the snapshot program and restored the blog folder of 2 days ago. Just in case, I deleted the WP hive from my site. And it seemed like everything went back to normal, except for 1 thing...

My websites' index pages has a link to my each blog. Website 1 is linking to blog 1 and Website 2 is linking to blog 2. After the crush, when I click on the link to blog 2 on website 2, it goes to blog 1. On website 1, the link works fine and goes to blog 1.

No matter what I tried, I can't figure out how to link correctly. On Dreamweaver, the link is linking to blog 2, but on the web, it goes to blog 1.

So I am thinking WP hive has changed some code of something on my database even though I deleted the program.

On the documentation page, it says when uninstalling, you have to delete wphive config file, etc, but I don't know where they are...

I am not a computer expert, so if you could give me easily comprehensive answer, I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

I have four blogs set up through WP Hive. Three of them work fine; the fourth is giving me trouble.

My default Wordpress installation is at mydomain.com/blog. That's the blog that's giving me trouble. When I tried logging into the Dashboard, I got a Wordpress message stating the database needed to be upgraded and it could take several minutes. I clicked on the upgrade button and the upgrade was accomplished quickly.

I tried logging in anew at mydomain.com/blog/wp-admin. I can see from the URL that a redirect happened because something told the browser to go instead to mydomain.com/wp-admin, and that URL in turn displays a redirect to the URL I entered in the first place, mydomain.com/blog/wp-admin. Weird. The browser also displayed this message:

Not Found

The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server.

The latest version of WP Hive does not support directory installs (domain.com/wordpress) very well.

Will be re-worked for the next version.

I am having this same problem. My setup is identical to jebus'. Didn't have this problem with a previous version of WP-Hive. I think I was running 0.4 before I upgraded to 0.5.3.

Well, I can fix the problem by commenting out lines 45 - 53 in do-prefix.php, under // Get and clean up the pathname. Doing this seems to fix the redirect problem, and all the secondary sites and admins work fine.

It looks like something is not being defined, because it keeps updating the value for "home" in wp_options for the main blog, adding the a "/wordpress" after the url. I can't tell where this is happening, whether it's in wp-hive or the Wordpress core code.

Thanks.

I just reinstalled WP-Hive because I'm having a problem with my main blog admin redirecting to the web root directory. I've got wordpress installed in a subdirectory in the web root, and all the secondary blog admins work fine. But, when I try to go to the main blog admin, which should be at domain.com/wordpress/wp-admin, it redirects me to domain.com/wp-login.php, which doesn't exist.

This worked fine up until a recent upgrade that apparently broke it. Isn't there some way to serve the main blog from the web root, and point secondary domains to the /wordpress directory?

Thanks.

Hi!

I've installed wordpress in a subdirectory on my website (website.com/wordpress), but the blog address is my website root(website.com).
I want to install another blog in another subdirectory (website.com/blog).

I tried to do it, but when I clicked "install site" I got redirected to website.com/wp-admin/install.php , but since the wordpress is in a subdirectory i get a page not found-message. (same thing happens if I type in website.com/blog)

How is this possible?

I recommend using mod-rewrites to map an entire directory to a specific directory on the server. While I can't give you the exact details on how to do it, you will need to create a WP rewrite rule using regex.

It would be similar to how I manage the sitemap.xml file in the plugin, but instead of for specific files, it will be for a full directory.

It's something I intended to create for the new version, but haven't started yet.

Hope that helps a bit..

OK, so the more I use wp-hive, the more I find a need to have additional files in the private domain directory (where robots.txt, etc. is supposed to go). So, how about this - in wp-hive, check for an extension (.html, .jpg, whatever) and redirect to that page in the private folder? Is this possible? Or, is there a better method?
