I believe improvements with subdirectory blogs will be forthcoming in a future WP Hive update. I ran into similar problems, gave up using WP Hive.

I am still having a terrible time trying to get the subdirectory blogs to work. I can't get into them. My logins don't work most of them time.. COuld it be a problem with the fact that the logins (User name and password) are different?

thanks so much for that answer.. I have one more question. How do you link a subdirectory to a page?

If a theme stores its configuration in the 'Options' table of the database, then it is specific to that site and won't be copied when WP Hive is installed.

You would have to manually set up the theme configuration on the new site in the hive.

I am very much a novice at all this, but I am having trouble. I have a webpage with 5 blogs in separate subdirectories. When I set up WP Hive, all went well, with the exception of the log in issues everyone seems to have. THe problem is that none of the original theme, plugin etc set up migrated to the new Hive generated sites. WHat did I do wrong.

Hi Gene, I don't know if it helps, since your are dealing with many variables simultaneously, but the only thing I believe it would be difficult for you with wp-hive is to have to change your URLs for the different blogs, since wp-hive still doesn't manage that kind of subdomain, only subdomain.mydomain.com.
As to the other stuff, imagine you'll be using the same installation, the same plugins but different administration for your blogs. That's wp-hive. When you update plugins, you update for all the blogs. I guess that's what you want, right?

I currently have 6 wordpress blogs/podcasts. Updating the plugins and configuring 6 different blogs has become very time-comsuming.

My blogs are in 6 different wordpress installs in 6 different databases and are located in subdirectories as such:
http://www.mmti.org/podcasts/assessment
http://www.mmti.org/podcasts/boardexam
http://www.mmti.org/podcasts/massagetherapy
http://www.mmti.org/podcasts/medicalmassage
http://www.mmti.org/podcasts/myofascial
http://www.mmti.org/podcasts/sportsmassage

They each have their own theme and configuration.
as well.

My goals are:
1. reduce the time it takes me to update all the plugins/upgrades
2. continue to use google adsesnse for each blog
3. restricts access (monetize) the podcast category of each blog
4. keep the unique theme for each blog

I'm not sure if it would be beneficial for me to use only one main blog and just direct users to different podcassts based on categories.

Would wp-hive, wordpress MU or another solution
allow me to accomplish this.

I think I read that wordpress 2.8 will allow multiple uses of the same widget. Would that allow me to add different htnml coide to 6 different instances of a text widget and using a wordpress widhget-context plugin, display specific widgets on a category page apopropriate to that category , such as
Would it be easy for me to keep them in the same directories and maintain the same theme for each after MU installation?

Thanks
Gene
