Yes, you can use as many IPs as you want, as long as the webserver recognizes them and points them to the same directory that WordPress w/ WP Hive is installed in.

WP Hive looks at the domain name and first subdirectory to determine which site to serve.

Hi,

what if I have multiple domains, but each domains have different c-class IP address and different nameservers. Can I use WP Hive to manage the WP sites under these domains?

You know there are these hosting companies who give you c-class IPs, for example Hostgator: http://www.seohosting.com/

I have never used such type of hosting before. How could I manage my WP sites on these hosts, where the sites reside on different c-class IPs?

I know that I cannot use Wordpress 3.0 multisite, if the sites are on different IPs, but what can WP Hive do?

thanks ikailo.

My hive is currently on the Media Temple grid server and I've been a little frustrated with how slowly my pages load. This is true with all the sites hosted on that account, a few of which are not on the hive, so it's an (mt) issue.

Just thinking of other options to get my pages going a little faster and I want my hive to go with me if I move.

Hive only works when all the sites are on a single server. I'm not sure that having multiple IP addresses served by the same server will actually increase your performance.

Nonetheless, as long as all the sites are pointing to the same web server directory, and share the same database, it will work.

WP Hive does not care what the IP address is. It just looks at the HTTP_HOST value provided by the server.

I have a hive set up on my shared hosting account right now - all my domains share the same IP address. There are currently 8 blogs on my hive.

I'm seriously considering upgrading to a reseller account and giving each site its own unique IP for performance reasons.

Will my hive be able to make that transition will me? Or will I be able to recreate my hive?

It took me some time to figure out how to get the hives set up. I used SSH to point my sites to the master hive site via terminal.

I'm not exactly sure how I'd point them if they're not on a shared hosting account but rather have their own individual IP. I am assuming I could do this, though...

So can I migrate my hive from a shared hosting to dedicated IP's... and any tips if so?
