    Hi,

I've been able to successfully use this plug-in (which is awesome by the way!) to create a new WP blog with a subdomain, but I can't do it for a new domain. I'm not sure if the problem is with my GoDaddy settings or with the Hive settings.

Here are my Hive settings for the new domain:
    Site Name: domain.com
Prefix: pre_ (different from main prefix)

I've checked the database and these settings are the same in the hosts table too.

on GoDaddy, I've tried various things. I tried Forwarding with & without Masking (I saw the post in which you mentioned that wouldn't work, so I've been leaving that off lately). I've tried changing the A Record IP to the IP of the other server. I've tried changing the www CName alias to the other domain. Nothing has worked so far.

    Can you help me?

    thanks!

I just read IsSidha's Installation for dummies post, so I'm trying that. I'm changing the nameservers of the new domain to match those of the old one. I'm also changing the A Record IP again. I don't see any other meaningful settings (which may be a grave oversight). I'll update with the results.

so far it hasn't worked. It's been about 30 minutes, though, so it's possible that the DNS changes haven't been completed.

I should mention also, when I test http://www.newdomain.com it gives me a 403 right now. newdomain.com (sans www.), however, takes me directly to http://www.olddomain.com with the main blog on it.

    Peculiar.

    from wiki...
The 403 Forbidden HTTP status code indicates that the client was able to communicate with the server, but the server won't let the client access what was requested. This response is returned by the Apache web server when directory listings have been disabled. Microsoft IIS responds in the same way when directory listings are denied.

now, i don't have GoDaddy and certainly not the dreaded Cpanel.. but it looks like the "www" part is pointing somewhere else.. which is indeed rather strange

Ok, no luck yet. I have changed my www CName alias back to http://www.olddomain.com. This is something that I tried earlier to no avail, but I'm out of ideas.

Has anybody been able to do this with GoDaddy? I don't understand many of the things that I'm doing. I still believe that it should work, but I've spent something like 7 hours now trying to find the right settings.

Please help. I'll update again later.

here is a link to a helpfiles from GoDaddy

    about domains: http://help.godaddy.com/article/2227
    about hosting: http://help.godaddy.com/article/5399

it seems to be depending on the type of service wether it will be succesfull or not?
the 5399 article is how i use it, one hosting plan and multiple domains, but instead of pointing to different folders they all point to the same one.

in case you need to change the CName settings it will take 24 to 48 hours before you will see it

    good luck!!

It's working! I don't know if was the CName change (which I guess takes longer than I was giving it) or (what's probably more likely) the about hosting: http://help.godaddy.com/article/5399 link that you posted. GoDaddy gives some directions that everybody should see. It's very simple and straightforward really.. I guess you should only see this if you are stuck.

    Thanks IsSidha for your help!

Hey IsSidha, I just saw your (12 hrs ago) reply to the "for dummies" topic. The Deluxe plan for GoDaddy is not necessary. You can still point multiple domains to one hosting account with the Economy plan (that I have). The only limitation is that they must all point to the same root folder... which happens to work out perfectly well for WP-Hive!

    WP-Hive: 1
    GoDaddy: 0
