Pointing a Sub Domain - How?

    Hi

Am trying to set WP-Hive up and get as far as the pointing part of the installation, but it doesn't want to play ball after that.

Just to explain, I have installed a new Wordpress blog in it's own sub directory as in http://www.mydomain.com/blog/

Have installed WP-Hive as per instructions and the two tables have been created in the SQL DB.

I have then set up a sub domain through cpanel like http://www.mysubdomain.mydomain.com

Now comes the problem as the only option I have in the cpanel sub domain screen is to redirect mysubdomain.mydomain.com to mydomain.com/blog/ which is where the wordpress files are. This sets up a 301 redirect from the sub domain to the blog directory. However, if I try to access the sub domain, all it does is redirect me to the blog front page which is what I would have expected from a 301 redirect.

Question is, does 'pointing the sub domain' mean redirect or am I missing something obvious here. The way I am doing it doesn't want to work, that's for sure.

Thanks for any help. WP-Hive will be a great time saver for me if I can get it working.

You definitely don't want it to redirect - if it is a 301, then WP Hive can't read the proper hostname and decide which site the request is for. The idea is to have the webserver serve the files from the same directory for all the sites in the hive.

The setup is different in many webservers. I know in my CPanel, I need to set it up as an Addon domain (if I have it set up in a directory other than root) or as a parked domain (if I have it set up in the root directory).

Have a look at this post if you haven't yet.

Also have a look at the old site, JC has a good post here that might be of help.

Thanks for your response ikailo. However, despite trying everything mentioned by yourself and JC, I still couldn't get WP-Hive to do it's thing so to speak.

However, in my quest to find out why, I discovered that there are several versions of cpanel available and they can be changed through the Web Host Manager provided you have access to same. My cpanel was preset on version x which is the default. By changing the cpanel to version x3, you end up with a totally different interface.

I selected the sub domain option to set up the sub domain that I wanted to use with WP-Hive. Put in the sub domain name and then there is box underneath that doesn't show up on the default cpanel interface, called Document Root. This is initially filled in with the default path to the sub domain that you have just created. However, all you need to do is changed the path name to the directory or sub directory where the WP/WP-Hive files are located. Click the create button and the new sub domain is pointing to WP-Hive and everything works as it is supposed to. The same options are available on the Addon and Parked domain screens.
The other thing I have noticed is that no actual sub domain folder is created on the server either.

So, if you cannot get WP-Hive working properly, either go in to your Web Host Manager and change the cpanel to X3 or if you do not have access to WHM, ask your server company to do it for you.

I am intending setting up a multi sub domain site in the next few days using WP-Hive, now that I know that it works with my server, which incidentally is also in Canada - kiosk.ws.
