Single install on existing domain names with master account

I've actually read the forums on how to install wp-hive 0.5, and it confuses me a lot about step 5. I understand that when pointing to a subdirectory from cPanel, one must go to Addon Domains to create a new domain that will run the Install Script like a fresh installation on the new site.

I have installed Wordpress & wp-hive on the master account/domain of my server and already have existing domains (separate accounts) that I plan to install Wordpress on. This means that I will not go through the Addon Domains module, because I already have existing domains. The question: Is it possible to treat the accounts as hives? If so, what would I have to do?

It's actually tricky because each site/account has its own identity and if I were to point the directory where Wordpress is installed, it would be from another account. Please help!

All the sites in the hive need to have direct access to the Wordpress directory. If the separate accounts can access the same files, then there is no problem.

But if each account has it's own set of files, then you can't share the files and WP Hive won't work. You would need to merge all the domain names into a single account.

    Hi ikailo,

Thanks for your reply. This is the situation, I already have an account that is already registered (e.g. domainY.com) and I can manage with a master account (e.g. domainX.com). I can manage both accounts into one cPanel but they do have separate set of files. Is this what you mean by merging the domains into one account?

Sorry, I'm new to these stuff. I actually can't access domainX.com's files from domainY.com, so how do I go about merging or how do I point domainY.com to domainX.com's files?

I uploaded the wordpress files directly on public_html via FTP and installed Wordpress and wp-hive as it says, I then added the site to be treated as hive in the WP-Hive admin, and tried to park domainY.com.

I get an error saying: "Error from park wrapper: seniordriver.net is owned by another user." I understand this because I own the domain but what I should do next?

I've read from the forums especially the case of JCFreak1223 (http://wp-hive.com/forums/topic.php?id=15), I'd like you to clarify the statement that you gave: "If you do own the domain, then one thought is that it's possible you registered it on that server before using a different account. "

Sorry too many questions, hope you could help out. Many thanks.

It definitely sounds like the domains need to be in the same account. You would need to find out from your host how to move the domains between accounts and get around the error you're receiving.

Regarding my statement before, I was describing the scenario which is exactly the same as yours. DomainX.com was registered under Account1, then domainY.com under Account2. Now you need both domainX.com and domainY.com to be under Account1.
